UB Championship Series

So far in this blog we’ve gone over the benefits of US friendly poker sites, the UB referral code, the details of clearing the bonus, and details about their VIP program, RAI$E. Today I’d like to discuss the tournaments you can find at UB, particularly the UB Online Championship (UBOC) series. At the start of the year the fourth UBOC was hosted, and over a two week period, 12 events took place.

The players that decided to download free poker at the start of the year were lucky to have the chance to clear their deposit bonus during the events because the buy-ins were fairly large in order to contribute to a total prize pool of $4 million. Even the micro stakes players participated because there was also the Mini-UBOC, a series that featured the same tournaments as the regular UBOC but offered buy-ins under $30.

Since UB is one of the top Texas Holdem sites there were a lot of Hold Em events, but the folks in charge ensured that UBOC also featured several different types of poker. Other poker options included HORSE, mixed games, and Pot Limit Omaha. Hold Em players got to choose from standard full ring games, rebuy events, short handed tournaments, and even a heads-up contest. And as a bonus, the site also gave out a special watch to each event’s winner as a gift for being the tournament champion. Most online poker rooms give these bonus prizes to their champions to emulate the World Series of Poker bracelets.

Event buy-ins started at $100+$9 and went up to $2,500+$100 while the guarantees had a range of $30k to $1 million. MTT poker professionals like Annie Duke and Phil Hellmuth hosted the events, just like the Red Pros with FTOPS on the Full Tilt Poker download. Some absolutely huge prizes were won, including $361k in the Deepstack No-Limit Hold Em 6-max event and $279k in the Championship Event.

Every UB series features more games and bigger prize pools, so it’s exciting to consider what the next UBOC might offer. You’ll need to wait until they announce the next UBOC to play in these tournaments yourself, but the bright side is that it will give some new players a chance to download UB, which might make the prize pools even larger. If you’re not already trying Ultimate Bet for Mac, feel free to read my first articles for reasons explaining why it might be a good idea. I’ll post again in a couple weeks – see you then!
